Nashville Fashion Week 2012 Is Gearing Up

6 Feb

NFW 2012 is coming soon. You can purchase tickets now and VIP tickets are on sale until this Wednesday, February 8th!

There was an event about a week ago at Hutton Hotel where NFW made some announcements and got us all giddy about the things that are to come. The people/place/fashions were beautiful and I had a blast catching up with friends…some of whom I haven’t seen since NFW 2011.

I apologize for the red eyes. #iPhoneproblems . I solemnly swear to bring a real camera next time.

Falling Whistles: The Face Campaign

10 Nov

“There are no pictures, words, or social media platforms that can accurately describe an experience with the Falling Whistles crew. “Find them, follow them, and do your part.” -Britt Johnson of All Most Famous. I feel Britt said it best, this was my first Falling Whistles event and let me tell you I was moved and empowered. I couldn’t wait to get involved in spreading the word for Peace in Congo. I jumped at the opportunity to purchase my first whistle and get my picture taken for the Face Campaign.

Falling Whistles’ new initiative, the Face Campaign, combines the social media movement with the fundamentals of petitioning to create a global demonstration for Peace in Congo. They were empowered by the first mass petition in 1783, when England’s Abolitionists gathered signatures to show their leaders that the people wanted an end to slavery. Falling Whistles wants to make the same kind of impact to end the deadliest war of our time. Here’s how they are going to do it and how you can get involved.

How to become a Whistle Blower for Peace:

1. The Face Campaign: Over the next few months Falling Whistles wants your face. Instead of asking for your signature, they will be collecting faces from across the world of those who want Peace in Congo. You can download FW+FACES APP on iTunes. Once their new website is up and running you’ll be able to take your picture on their site, but until then use your iPhone and iPad! As you can see it’s very easy to get involved, all you have to do is say “cheese” and let FW do the rest, simple as that! FW will then put all of these faces up on a Wall to reinvent the petition and then each face will be faxed individually to the White House, Whistle Blowers for Peace in Congo. FW will announce  the date for those involved to recreate the wall in their own city, creating a global demonstation for Peace! Check out the app:

2. Purchase your Whistle online and rock it with pride by wearing your protest. Let me tell you it’s a great conversation starter and it goes with pretty much everything, I’ve worn my countless times since I bought it! Want to get involved now but don’t want to wait? Excellent, all you have to do is find Falling Whistles at your local Nordstrom, in the men’s section!

3. Donate. The proceeds support Falling Whistles behind the scenes work, partnerships with Congolese Leaders, and their developing advocacy campaign.

SPEAK: The world is changed by those who speak out. Put your money where your mouth is.

SPEAK

ECHO: Ending this war will require money. A lot of it. Success will be measured by impact, not dollar signs, but to get there we need your continued support.

ECHO

THE COUNCIL: The Council is a special circle of individuals committed to our long term growth with larger monthly donations.

4. Meet Yves. Invite him to your school, church, synagogue, town hall, conference, etc. He’s sharing his story and speaking out for peace in the Congo. Contact the tour for info.

This Week In Fashion: Rumors about Marc Jacobs moving to Dior grow, Phoebe Philo may have a new gig, and Avril Lavigne has an upcoming fashion show?

25 Aug

Is Marc Jacobs moving to Dior? Could there be anything more wonderful than that? As a long time lover of both Marc and Dior, I would completely enjoy a collaboration of such a great mind and such a deserving brand. I feel a little bit bad for Galliano, but then again, see ya!

I applaud Phoebe Philo for the work she has done at Céline and the way she has helped turn a second-class brand into a fashion forerunner, but I think that she could also take Marc’s place at Louis Vuitton and work wonders. I think she could be just the person to make Vuitton a little less Jessica Simpson and a little more Mary Kate Olsen. Would Phoebe ever take Marc’s place?

Lady Gaga’s sister, Natali Germanotta, continues to grow her brand by designing the costumes for “Simon Says” on Broadway. Looks like Gaga isn’t the only sister that’s taking over the world.

And speaking of taking over the world, Avril Lavigne hosts a runway show for her new line Abbey Dawn on September 12th in NYC? Let’s hope it’s better than her older clothing. If it’s anything like this video, I’m not interested.

This Week In Fashion: TOMS not so little secret, Balmain & W mag find new direction, and Target hooks up with Missoni.

6 May

The Mystery Box

It’s official TOMS is getting ready to launch its next One for One product on June 7th. This is kinda a big deal and I’m a little anxious to be honest.  And to add to the suspense they are keeping the secret in some really cool mystery boxes.  From SXSW in Austin, to the Railroad Revival Tour, to the Boston Marathon, to Times Square in NYC,  they seem to have people buzzing where ever they drop those things off.  They have made it known that TOMS will no longer just be a shoe company, which is quite exciting.  I guess all we can do is go along for the ride.

Balmain's new man

This past seasons former Balmain head designer Christophe Decarnin resigned due to disputes with the brand’s chairman.  As expected Olivier Rousteing has taken the reigns as the brand’s head designer. I know what you’re thinking just 2 weeks ago, the kid was a nameless, faceless designer.  Don’t fret, Rousteing has been around the block.   After five years at Roberto Cavalli, Rousteing joined Balmain in 2009 and began overseeing the women’s design studio.  He has huge shoes to fill, but Balmain’s CEO Alain Hivelin commended Olivier for his “talent and ability … and his great understanding and appreciation of the unique DNA of the brand.”

The fashion industry is not the most diverse world, definitely in France, and the fact that a old couture house has hired a black man as it’s creative director is a big deal.  No doubt this will put a ton of pressure on Rousteing. The big question is will the 25 year old, Rousteing be able to create another fashion zeitgeist to enchant the masses?  Time and the Spring 2012 collection will tell.

Edward Enninful

Edward Enninful is heading to W to take over Alex White’s post as fashion and style director.  Enninful unlike Balmain’s Rousteing is not stranger to the fashion world.  Enninful is a prolific London-based stylist and fashion director who works internationally. Born in Ghana, he began a degree at Goldsmith’s College, University of London, which he left to become the youngest ever Fashion Editor of i-D.  Enninful served as a contributing fashion editor to U.S. Vogue and Vogue Italia, as fashion and style director.  Im excited to see what approach and direction the magazine takes with Enninful at the helm.

Target x Missoni

Targets next designer collaboration is Missoni.  This is very exciting, The collection is slated to be the retailers biggest collection to date.  The collection will include mens, womens, childrens, and also housewares like sheets, plates, and cutlery.  The two, with their combined efforts will produce over 400 items, and don’t fret, Vogue.com assures consumers that everything will be splashed with “plenty of Missoni’s swirls, zigzags.”  The collection will hit stores September,13th of this year.
